Any one reading this will know it's been a long while between cherry stew posts.
Miss Cherry stew has been hardly in the studio for quite a few months, having gone back to work sewing for the theatre. Well, I did say change was afoot... between now and the end of the year you will still be able to find me more weekends than not at a market in and around Melbourne, with your favourite styles of little girls pinnafores from past collections and more garments as promised for us , grown up girls.

After a recent road trip that involved much lucky op shopping I am no longer able to close the button suitcase... yes, you read right I have a suitcase full of buttons....

here's a first look at the new sweet heart scarves so named for the cute little shape of a heart they make when you cross their little rounded ends over, or because they would look lovely on your little sweet heart.

This batch are for little un's ..

The grown up ones are super long , over 2 metres because I love a long , trailing scarf.

pebble brooches

Still seem to be having trouble really and properly going back to work... have at least turned on the sewing machine. I have been making little piles of the new pebble brooches to use up sweet fabric pieces i have been holding onto for ages. To give them their distinctive pebble shape requires sewing around and around and around and ... well quite a few more times. has been quite hypnotic

So, I 've moved myself , family and cherry stew into a big ol' house. For 6 years now we have lived in the tiniest of flats. I have a great big studio now but so far nothing much has been sewn in it. . . I have rediscovered the wonderful things that a garden can be, picnics, hammocks, cold drinks in the sun.

I have a lovely big kitchen to cook for friends in. Who would have thought I could make ravioli...

But, the time has come to go back to work with my first market for the year coming up this Sunday the 23rd Jan. It's the Threadden market in North Melbourne of course, one of my favourites.
so, maybe see some of you there....

The warm weather has finally arrived after what seems to have been a year of winter.
Cherry stew now has more tea cup tunics in stock in sizes 0 to 4.
Colours so far are peach, orange and of course red. Speaking of red , ruby red babushka bubbles are also now in stock.

Been a lot of button shuffling going on in the studio today. It's an activity quite up there on my list of things

to do that make me feel like i am working( when clearly i am not!)

i have been a button shuffler from a very young age, i clearly remember my favourites from my mothers old button jar.

Spring is finally coming, I can get out there and turn the pile of cold clay outside in to a vegie garden. I've been watching it for some time from my sewing table (beside the heater) and now with all that glorious sun shining on it ,being inside in my work room is losing it's appeal. So , now that the sun has got it's hat on, hip hip hip hip hooray the sun has got it's hat on and it's coming out to play... so am I !

The cold is weathering away at me. So while I hide away indoors I am sewing up little lighter weight bamboo and cotton printed pram quilts for all those new little babies and the spring outings, picnics and parties that are bound to happen when the sun finally comes back out. Only two weeks till spring...

have been spending a little time a la Beatrix potter, by that i mean sitting in the sun drawing pictures of my rabbit...

and now little painted rabbits are popping up every where

red and blue printed textiles (still quite beguiled by that colour combination) made up into cushions and quilts.

There are piles of lovely soft cordouroy pants piling up princess and the pea style in the studio. Had to take a picture of all their little hems in a row.

Have borrowed a little person to model them... so you can see them in action.

Have just got the whirly girl skirt patterns out to give them another twirl. One was requested (in a larger size , to be much like the original if possible) as the favourite bought years ago had finally got to small for the wearer.
So i am taking requests for more special orders as well as making a little run to send to a new Melbourne stockist.. more on that later.

just finished a quilt for my own bed, saved fabric from the spring range and waited patiently and sewed nimbly till all the little dresses were made. Before all the other layers were added I hung it over the window to let the sun pour through...and the light in the room was infused with all the colours of the rainbow.

I love red and green all year round. Took this dress to market last Thursday and have had requests for it in almost every other size. So today there will be a special Christmas print run.. better go do it hadn't I.

Been so busy sewing for the Northcote Artisans Market I've barely noticed the days fly by.
Looking forward to Saturday when I shall be relaxing at the market, relaxing here translates as not sewing....

It's Tuesday and I can't wait for this lovely vintage fabric with deer on it to be my new skirt. Somehow making skirts for women keeps slipping down the to do list.
I am more than happy to make to order, that's a sure fire way to bump them back up to the top of the list.
A deadline will usually have the same effect and as Cherry stew will be at the Northcote town hall Winter Artisan Markets so soon, I'd better get a scurry on to have some ready in time.
The markets run on 4 consecutive Saturdays starting on the 20th of June.

I've got a really soft spot for deers and stamps so this really tickled my fancy....

Any way , nearly time for craft at Pippa's again with lemon tarts this time..... and I can't wait.

It's Tuesday and I can't wait to get out of my studio. Got a cluster of purple dresses that all need their linings slip stitched in. So they can come to graft group this afternoon at Pippa May Cooks and I can sew with great company and great coffee...

Hooray not so lost now, thanks to the kind assistance of my black cardigan I now have a list of blogs i like to read from time to time. It's not a long list yet, I am fast discovering that there are soo many lovely blogs and their creators out there.
